Lets look at the potential postpartum experience

for mothers and the potential of a doula…

The Postpartum time is incredibly sacred and holds potential for healing beyond recovering from birth. I have experienced so much magic in my work...much more than just supporting women in a practical sense. I am wanting to share the sacred nature of this work and pass it on to others working in the space.

I believe this is different to a doula training as it's less focused on building business and 'rescuing' mothers. My mentorship focuses on the art of Postpartum Care and how we can support a mother in the depths of her Rite of Passage. As doulas, there is so much we can be doing to organise community based care for each family, as well as add depth with our own art and craft as specialised caregivers.

This will be a safe space to learn and grow together in our work and support eachother.

Mentorship meets you where you are at and your needs. I am wanting this space and content to be informed by the individuals called to show up here. There will be time for your questions or enquiry and to share your process.

I will have a loose plan for each session, however, here are some topics I aim to explore together:

•What it truly means to be 'with woman' in the postpartum space and how we can support the protection of the Sacred Window

•The energetics of the postpartum space and our own energy body when entering/working in the space

•Supporting mothers with breastfeeding

•The physiology of a postpartum mother and what 'rest' truly means, as well as in depth look at the 6 pillars of postpartum care

•Cultivating relationship and intimacy with the mother and family prior to birth and postpartum

•The Mother Blessing Ceremony as key for community education and setting up the Postpartum support circle

•Traditional cultural support systems of caring for the mother and how that is different today

•Being with hard/negative emotions, grief and darkness

•The self/inner work required to hold this space

•Discovering and owning your unique gifts and contributions to new mothers

•The importance of thorough planning and preparation (emotional and spiritual) for the postpartum time and how to guide couples/their community with this

•What is deep support and how do we provide that?

•The flow of a postpartum visit

•Exploring the truths about women's and baby's inherent wisdom

•Cultivating community care for mothers and how building community doesn't take away from us but actually supports our role as caregivers

•The importance of postpartum specific foods and how to resource mamas to be fed well

•Caesarean Birth care

•Unexpectedly outcomes/Nicu stay etc

•Birth story listening

•Tending to the placenta and ritual

•The difficult conversations about loss and death and the need for Postpartum Care in these situations

•Deciphering who is right to work with

•Centering fathers/partners as a key role of support and acknowledging their Rite of passage too

•Self care and nervous system regulation for birthworkers

•Ritual and ceremony to honour the mother during the first 40 days

•Simple hands on therapies/herbal remedies to support the mother's recovery

•Navigating Social media and marketing while working in a sacred space

What others are saying

I have sat with Carla within a number of her offerings both privately and in group spaces. Each time I do, I experience a deep sense of connection and gratitude for the wisdom she shares. Her teachings are a result of her genuine presence and devotion to women throughout the whole childbirth continuum. Weaving her traditional knowledge with her understanding of how to truly show up for women and families, Carla poured to much depth and value into her postpartum care mentorship. I was able to apply so much to my own postpartum experience as well as serving others. Carla’s teachings truly uphold how to tend to every aspect of a mother in the first 40 days and beyond as well as how we can reestablish community care. Carla’s postpartum mentorship was such a pivotal learning space for me - Hayley @hayley_birthwork

This is for you if...

You are interested in or are currently working with women in any capacity through the postpartum time. This is calling back our traditional women's wisdom that was mostly stolen from us through the Middle Ages, when birth was taken over by the medical system.

This is for you if you would like to provide mothers with deep support beyond food prep and household chores.

This is for you if postpartum has a special place in your heart for whatever reason.

This is for you if you would like to be apart of uplifting postpartum awareness in the collective.

I vision this mentorship to be a melting pot of wisdom and transference via the wise woman tradition of story telling and sharing our lived experiences.

You are welcome; maiden, mother, maga or crone

About Carla:

I am a mother to two beautiful children  and live, work, relate and parent on beautiful Widjabul Wia-bul Country of the Bundjalung Nation, NSW.

Birthwork called me after the birth of my second child, an empowering, insightful reclamation after my first birth was interrupted by a private midwife.

I had two very contrasting experiences of birth. I also had two contrasting experiences of postpartum. My first, I had little awareness about postpartum and I was very isolated and unsupported.

I made a point of never letting that happen again. For my second, I gathered knowledge, community support and was cared for by a wise woman who showed me everything that I do now.

I acknowledge her as well as the other women in this lineage and all of my teachers.

I am fortunate enough to have followed the threads and be guided by traditional birthwork and postpartum care. I have been immersed in this for the last 5 years. I bring this and the experience of my own postpartum journeys as well facilitation skills to the circle. I am so passionate about reclaiming birth and postpartum skills for our communities and sharing what I've learned with anyone that is keen.

With Woman is the title because it says it all. The way that I work is allegiance and loyalty to mothers as authority, as expert and as the wise one. Through the birth continuum, I follow her lead and it's so beautiful and powerful.  Mothers have also been my biggest teachers.

I look forward to sharing with you what I've learned along the way and coming together to contribute to the postpartum revolution.

With love,

Carla
